A Novel Technique for low-cost, high resolution, digital video films in repetitive mechanical systems

Electrical & Electronic Joint Technical Program Event, hosted by IMechE.
Engineers House, Chapman Hall, 11 Bagot Street, North Adelaide
Updated: 6.15pm Wednesday 10th April 2007
Refreshments from 5:30pm
Speaker: Michael Riese, BEng (Hons) CEng MIMechE
Michael is currently studying for his PhD in Fluid Dynamics at the University of Adelaide, and is a part time lecturer. He was born in Germany and took his degree at Cardiff University in the UK. He presented this evenings lecture at the IMechE s inaugural Australian Speak out for Engineering Competition in August 2006 and also at the IMechE s recent Asia-Pacific Competition, held in Hong Kong. The Author, in conjunction with the University of Adelaide, has developed a vastly improved system for high speed recordings in a mechanically repetitive system, utilizing a low-cost, high resolution digital SLR camera. Using a custom designed control system, the camera takes pictures distributed over a number of
cycles in the correct sequence. The Presentation will show examples of the conventional systems previously used, footage obtained using the new method and statistical problems identified thereafter as well as suggestions for future applications in advanced laser diagnostic systems.
