Graph Theory Methods for Computer-Aided Analysis of Screening Mammograms

Combined Electrical & Electronic and Mechanical Joint Technical Program Event, hosted by IEEE.
Engineers House, Chapman Hall, 11 Bagot Street, North Adelaide
6.15pm Wednesday 12th September 2007
Refreshments from 5:30pm

Speaker: Dr Mariusz Bajger, Computer Science, Flinders University

Image segmentation and image registration tasks form the basis for numerous important Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition techniques. Successful performing of these tasks is also crucial for many cancer detection algorithms used in digital mammography. In this talk we will discuss some of the recent developments towards better segmentation and registration methods in digital mammography based on graph-theoretical methods such as finding a Minimum Spanning Tree or using the Adaptive Pyramid algorithm. The ultimate goal which underpins this research is to obtain a robust algorithm for automatic registration of mammograms and, as a consequence, improve early detection of breast cancer.
