Our evening will commence with a complimentary welcoming drink, cheese and dips from 7pm. Drinks thereafter will be on a limited tab basis and/or subsidised by your IET Local Network. Complimentary cocktail food will be provided from 7:30, which may satisfy your dinner meal requirements. The proceedings of the AGM will commence shortly after food is consumed. Image segmentation and image registration tasks form the basis for numerous important Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition techniques. Successful performing of these tasks is also crucial for many cancer detection algorithms used in digital mammography. In this talk we will discuss some of the recent developments towards better segmentation and registration methods in digital mammography based on graph-theoretical methods such as finding a Minimum Spanning Tree or using the Adaptive Pyramid algorithm. The ultimate goal which underpins this research is to obtain a robust algorithm for automatic registration of mammograms and, as a consequence, improve early detection of breast cancer.
