Recent and upcoming Australian Defence Force (ADF) programs include air-to-ground missile trials, bomb improvement trials, HyCAUSE and HIFiRE hypersonic trials, Explosive Ordnance activities and Electronic Warfare trials. Non-Defence programs include testing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Japanese supersonic airplane trials and also the targeted landing of the Hayabusa asteroid sample return capsule in the Woomera Prohibited Area in mid 2010. This talk will present an overview of the WTF together with a selection of contemporary Australian and international trials that highlight the unique capabilities of the WTF as the largest land-based Test and Evaluation range in the world.
