Welcome to BETNET 2008 – Engineering the Next Generation of Buildings and Facilities

BETNET 2008 aims to bring together a diverse range of people with a common interest in the area of the built environment. The technical programme will contain a combination of tutorials, papers and keynote speakers, addressing the breadth of the built environment.

Call for papers

The organising committee invites offers of contributions in any of the proposed topic areas. The deadline for papers is 15th April 2008.

Background

For the first time in human existence more than 50 per cent of the world’s population (over 3 billion people) are living in urban environments. This proportion is rising rapidly. Millions more people will move from the countryside to the cities in the next 15 years. Such population movements are totally unprecedented and represent a tremendous challenge to the creativity and skills of engineers, designers and technologists.

The impacts of this mass urbanisation are clear to see, soaring energy consumption, major air pollution and CO2 generation contributing significantly to global warming. Water shortage and pollution, alternative energy sources, transport and infrastructure overload and massive waste management issues. Such issues will only be resolved by developing and delivering world class engineering solutions on a global basis.

Who should attend

This event is aimed at delegates with the following roles:

Building Services Engineering Consulting Engineers

M&E Contracting Engineers

M&E Consulting Engineers

Electrical Engineers

Technician Engineers

Facility Managers

Facility Engineers

Structural Engineers

I.T. and Systems Engineers

Architects and Property developers

Workshops

In addition to a two day conference programme addressing leading-edge built environment topics; BETNET 2008 – Engineering the Next Generation of Buildings and Facilities will be preceded by a one day series of Workshops which will draw upon the practical experiences of presenters including international experts from within the built environment area, specialist consultancies and academic centres of excellence.
